Books

A Space for Learning

There are so many interesting books in the field of the relationship between body and mind, the importance of movement in human functioning, psychology, and beyond. Here, I have selected books from my own library that have influenced how I think about the method and its approach. It is a personal list that reflects my interests, organized in no particular order. Having read them—or not—does not affect the quality of any teacher’s work…

Books by Moshe Feldenkrais

Body & Mature Behavior

Body and Mature Behavior

There is no Spanish translation.

The first book he published, in 1949. It contains the theoretical research he conducted during the 1940s, which forms the foundation of his ideas.  I offer dedicated time for this process, either in person or online, one-on-one or in small working groups.

El poder del yo

The potent self

A book written at the same time as the previous one but published only in the 1980s. A more accessible presentation of the relationship between posture and bodily control, sexuality, and living fully. My first contact with the method…

Autoconciencia por el movimiento

Awarness through movement

A presentation of the method itself, theory, and practice together. Perhaps the best entry point for beginners.

The case of Nora

A presentation of his work with one person, in which he reveals his way of thinking, decision-making, conflicts, and mistakes. More personal and intimate than the other books.

Others

Some of these books are old and there are no Spanish translations. However, an internet search may lead you to the text in PDF format that could perhaps be translated.

Imagen y la apariencia del cuerpo humano (The image and appearance of the human body)

The Image and Appearance of the Human Body

Paul Schilder

A neuroscientist and disciple of Freud, Paul Schilder coined the term “Body Image” in the 1920s. This book compiles the research he conducted on the body–mind relationship at Mount Sinai Psychiatric Hospital in New York. When I first read it, I felt it was an inspiration for Feldenkrais.
